Sean Strickland suspects mental illness in Israel Adesanya

Reigning UFC middleweight titleholder, Sean Strickland, has spoken out about a bizarre conversation he had with Israel Adesanya immediately following their fight, which ended in a sensational defeat for the Nigerian.

“It was very strange,” the American revealed on another edition of his podcast. “He told me, ‘You were talking about my family – I would never do that.’ I was like, ‘Izzy, I don’t know your family at all, bro. I have no idea if you have brothers or sisters. I don’t know anything about you.’ He pointed to his neck and said, ‘My dog, man, my fucking dog’.”

“I think this dude needs help because it wasn’t even funny anymore. This love he has for his dog and other quirks seems like a form of mental illness. You get the feeling that there’s something wrong with this guy. Now I’m kind of embarrassed, like I’m bullying a high school underachiever who eats his boogers. It doesn’t amuse me anymore. Except for a little bit.”

The middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland, headlining UFC 293 in Sydney on Sept. 9, went the full distance and ended in a dominant victory for the American, who won the fight 49-46 three times to become the division’s new champion.
