UFC middleweight No. 7 Sean Strickland has explained why he chose to replace the injured Kelvin Gastelum on short notice and take on Nassurdin Imavov just four weeks after he was defeated in a five-round fight with Jared Kannonier.
“I was planning to go snowboarding, but I got a call from Mick Maynard and I thought, ‘He’s going to ask me to do something I don’t want to do,'” the American MMA Fighting fighter is quoted as saying. “I picked up the phone and he was like, ‘Hey, do you want this fight?’ Then this Aussie killer said to me insinuatingly, ‘We’ll give you a lot of money’, and I’m like, ‘That’s where I should have started – I’m in. Let’s have a fight'”
Recall that the light heavyweight fight between Sean Strickland and Nassurdin Imavov will be the main event of the UFC Fight Night 217 tournament, with which the strongest league in the world will open 2023.
