Sean Strickland cited the reason for Israel Adesanya’s defeat

Reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, who is set to make his first title defense this weekend against Dricus Du Plessis, is confident he won’t make the mistake that cost Israel Adesanya the championship belt.

“You know, we all lose at some point,” the American told ESPN. “Am I going to be able to beat the South African? Yes. I think I’ll beat him – I’ll get him in deep water and knock him out. But we all lose at some point.”

“You can be like Isiah, lying in a tub of rose petals and have an entourage around you that follows you, but then one day someone makes fun of your intimacy with a dog and you literally fall apart as a person – you get behind the wheel drunk and you get caught. I’m not like that because I’m always extremely honest, including with myself. I love my fans, they’re great people, but what is my job? Look at my face – and that’s just working out. I’m shortening my life to entertain people.”

“I mean, you’ll never see me lying in a tub of rose petals or hear me call myself the greatest in the world. I’m just a damn idiot who gets beaten in the head for money. At the moment, I’m the best at defending myself against headbutts, but in the end, that’s all there is to it”

The title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis will be the main event of UFC 297, which takes place on January 20 in Toronto, Canada. According to reports, Israel Adesanya, who sensationally lost the title against the American last September, is going to attend the championship fight in person.
