Sean O’Malley reveals future plan in the UFC

Reigning UFC flyweight champion Sean O’Malley, who took the title away from his compatriot Aljamain Sterling last weekend, knows what he must do to reach and surpass Conor McGregor’s status.

“I remember when I said in an interview that I was going to be bigger than Conor McGregor and I got a lot of de***ing for it,” the American told ESPN. “I had a tremendous amount of hashtag flying at me online, like, ‘Come on man, that’s unrealistic.’ In my opinion, it’s very much real. I just knew I had to keep doing my thing, knocking people out and putting on beautiful performances, and everything will happen.”

Specifically, O’Malley is considering a title superfight in the welterweight division.

“I think there are several ways to achieve McGregor’s status. Obviously, defending the belt is one of them, and it would be nice to formalize a beautiful knockout already in the first defense. The fight is at welterweight, but I’m not going to fight Alexander Volkanovski. Hopefully he’ll fight Elijah Topuria, and if Elijah beats Wolf, I’ll move up to featherweight and fight him”

Conor McGregor, commenting on Sean O’Malley’s success, paid tribute to the American, comparing his performance to his win over Jose Aldo.

Recall that the lightweight title fight, which headlined UFC 292 in Boston on August 19, ended early in the second round after O’Malley knocked Sterling down with a right jab before finishing the shocked champion in the parterre.
