Sean O'Malley refused to insure the fight between Sterling and Cejudo

UFC bantamweight number two, Sean O’Malley, has ruled out the possibility of him replacing Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo at UFC 288 in Newark on May 6.

“I really planned to insure the fight between Henry and Aljo, but I can’t train with full dedication, knowing that I most likely won’t fight,” MMA Fighting quotes the American. “When I know exactly what I’m fighting, I need eight full weeks to prepare. There’s a certain level of discipline in a camp like this, and that makes you feel like a fucking superhuman.”

“There are five weeks left before the fight, and I understand that even if one of them withdraws now, I will not be able to prepare for the five-round distance. Therefore, I refuse to insure a title fight. Officially, I was not a substitute, but consider this news.

Sean O’Malley has previously said that he will insure the title fight until the last week, when the final stage of the weight race begins.

Recall that the American had his last fight in October last year, following the results of three rounds, sensationally winning a split decision against the former division champion Petr Yan.
