Sean O'Malley reacts to news of Aljamain Sterling injury

UFC bantamweight title contender Sean O’Malley has commented on the news that the reigning division champion, Aljamain Sterling, may not make it to the fight scheduled to headline UFC 292 in Boston on August 19.

According to O’Malley, on the appointed date he is going to fight for the title, regardless of whether Sterling appears in the octagon or not.

“I’ll be there on August 19, regardless of whether Aljo comes out to fight, or someone else,” MMAmania quotes the American. “Daddy will be there. He will fight in the main event for the championship belt. With or without Aljo. Here’s how things are. Let’s see how things turn out. We still have a lot of time, and there will be big fights until August.”

Speaking of big fights, O’Malley may be referring to the fight between Corey Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov, which is expected to be announced soon.

As for Aljamain Sterling, he announced the day before that he had injured his legs in the fight against Henry Cejudo, and probably would not be able to recover and prepare for the defense of the championship belt in three months.
