The UFC’s top fighter regardless of weight class, Islam Makhachev, will be defeated if he tries to take the UFC welterweight title away from Leon Edwards, current UFC lightweight champion Sean O’Malley believes.
“Leon will beat Islam,” the American wrote on social media.
A week ago, Leon Edwards made the second successful defense of his championship belt, defeating Colby Covington by unanimous decision over five rounds at UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
After the event, Islam Makhachev, who holds the UFC lightweight title, once again signaled his desire to fight the Brit. The Russian last stepped into the octagon two months ago at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, knocking out current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in the first round.
Makhachev said he would like to fight next on March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami, the main event of which currently features a title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.
