Sean O’Malley has responded regarding the fight with Peter Yan

Reigning UFC flyweight champion, Sean O’Malley, did not shrug off a reminder that his win over Peter Yan, which secured the American’s title shot, was more than controversial.

“Just a reminder, Peter Yan beat Shawn. The judges robbed him,” former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion, Ben Askren, wrote on social media after the UFC 299 event.

“Just a reminder – Jake Paul knocked you out. Just kidding,” O’Malley replied to his compatriot.

In October 2022, Sean O’Malley defeated Peter Yan by split decision and ten months later knocked out Aljamain Sterling in a title fight to become the new UFC flyweight champion.

The Russian suffered another setback after his loss to the American, losing by unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili in five rounds.

This past weekend, both fighters took part in UFC 299, held in Miami – Sean O’Malley made the first successful defense of his championship belt, winning by unanimous decision over Marlon Vera, and Peter Yan put his career back on track by defeating China’s Song Yadong by unanimous decision.
