Should he defeat Marlon Vera, current UFC flyweight champion Sean O’Malley plans to move up to featherweight and challenge Elijah Topuria if the Georgian fighter manages to take the title from Alexander Volkanovski.
“If he goes out there and beats Wolf and I go out there and beat Chito, that fight will be next,” the American said on another edition of his podcast. “Whether you guys agree with that or not, I can see it quite clearly, and that’s what the UFC thinks – I’m already a potentially big star.”
“If Elijah thinks it’s an easy fight, why wouldn’t he fight a guy who has a big name, who can talk, and is easy to beat?”
As a reminder, a fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Elijah Topuria will headline UFC 298 on Feb. 17 in Anaheim, while Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera headline UFC 299 in Miami on March 9.
