Sean O’Malley gave his assessment of Petr Yan’s kick

Reigning UFC flyweight champion Sean O’Malley has named the opponent from whom he missed the hardest punch of his career.

“The hardest punch I’ve missed was from Peter Yan, that little Russian dude, the No. 1 ranked dude I fought in Abu Dhabi last October,” the American said on another edition of The Breakfast Club podcast. “I don’t have a lot of memories of my time in the octagon because I don’t even think about it, but I definitely remember that left jab, which was the hardest punch I missed”

Last October at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, Sean O’Malley scored a largely sensational win by split decision over former UFC flyweight champion Peter Yan. After that, the Russian suffered another defeat, losing by unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili, while the American finished his compatriot Aljamain Sterling by technical knockout and became the new champion of the division.

Sean O’Malley will make his first title defense on March 9 against Ecuadorian Marlon Vera, who suffered the only defeat of his career three years ago, while Peter Yan remains without a scheduled fight for now and plans to return to the octagon next year.
