Regardless of the outcome of the title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo, bantamweight division No. 1, Merab Dvalishvili, should not count on another title chance, according to second-ranked Sean O’Malley.
“Maybe I will fight twice this year, depending on how the fights go,” the American said in another video posted on his YouTube channel. “My next fight is going to be huge, that’s guaranteed – the winner of the Sterling-Cejudo fight. I spoke with the UFC, it will take place – it’s official. I will fight the winner and it will be great.”
Sean O’Malley’s statement indirectly confirms the information that the organization plans to bring Merab Dvalishvili together with Russian Umar Nurmagomedov, who is ranked eleventh in the division.
The bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo will headline UFC 288 in Newark on May 6.
