Saul Alvarez couldn't stop John Ryder

Undisputed super middleweight boxing champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez successfully defended his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring titles by defeating British John Ryder at home in Guadalajara.

In the fifth round, the challenger was knocked down, but managed to return to the fight and hold out until the final siren, preventing the Mexican from winning his fortieth career knockout victory.

Following the results of twelve rounds, the judges by unanimous decision with a score of 120-107 and 118-109 twice gave the victory to Canelo, who after the fight announced that he still counts on a rematch with the current WBA light heavyweight boxing world champion Russian Dmitry Bivol .

“Everyone knows that we want a rematch with Bivol,” said the Mexican. “If this fight doesn’t happen, then we’ll see what to do next”

In May last year, Saul Alvarez made an unsuccessful attempt to take away the championship belt from the Russian, having been defeated by a unanimous decision with a score of 115-113 three times.
