After a confident early victory over Dominican Javier Fortuna at the end of last week, American Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) is no longer eager to return to lightweight (up to 61.2 kg), in which the fight was originally supposed to take place, but at the last moment, the parties agreed on a division limit of up to 63.5 kg.
At the same time, it is known that, in words, Garcia really wants to fight compatriot Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) in the next fight and expects to do it before the end of this year.
However, if this does not happen, Ryan has a worthy alternative – former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs), who is scheduled to make his official debut at 63.5 kg on August 13 against Pedro Campa.
“If this fight (with Davis) doesn’t happen for some reason, although I’m positive, but if it still doesn’t happen, then I want to fight Teofimo Lopez at 63.5 kg,” Garcia said.
