One of the greatest heavyweights in the history of boxing, Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko did not leave the country after the full-scale invasion of the Russian armed forces, along with his brother, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, helped in the fight against the invaders.

Vladimir emotionally spoke in
Piers Morgan Uncensored: “Russia needs Ukraine. But, as we see, they are interested in Ukraine without Ukrainians. That is why Russian troops are killing civilians: massacres, bombing residential areas with banned phosphorus and cluster bombs. I was in Bucha, I saw everything with my own eyes. I saw tortured civilians with their hands tied behind their backs. They were all shot in the back of the head. This is an execution. Many children were affected: more than 1,000 people were killed or injured. We do not know the exact numbers, because we are constantly finding new places of mass executions. We do not know the exact numbers, because the number of victims is growing every day.”

“The genocide of the Ukrainian people must be stopped,” Klitschko continued. The world is connected as one, whether you like it or not. And the war in Ukraine will affect the life of the whole world. Gas and food prices will rise. If we lose, then you all lose. That is why we need your support. Our economy has collapsed. We need weapons, because you can’t win a war with bare fists. We can do it, because our will is stronger than any army in the world. We didn’t start this war. But we are determined to protect our lands and our homes. We don’t ask ourselves, “Can we win?” We have no doubts that we will win.”

“What would I say to Putin? Klitschko thought. – There is no way to change or influence it. No chance of convincing him to stop this war. He’s crazy, and what’s the point of talking to an insane person? Russia needs absolute economic isolation. Athletes from the Russian Federation must be removed from all competitions, including participation in the Olympic Games, because Russia is now associated with the whole world with war and murder. This is the answer to your question. What would I say to Putin? I believe that actions speak louder than words. We need complete isolation: both economic and even sports. I can feel the isolation. And it will hurt.”

Also during the interview, Klitschko admitted that he wanted to offer Tyson Fury the “last dance”, but changed his mind. In April magazine The Ring dedicated the number to Ukrainian boxers who opposed the aggression of the Russian Federation.
