Promoter Eddie HearnMatchroom Boxing) claims that the American-Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) may well upset compatriot knockout Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) – they must meet in a head-to-head fight in the final WBC eliminator.
Hearn knows Ruiz firsthand, having sensationally upset his top star, unified world champion Anthony Joshua, in 2019. Apparently for this reason he
puts on the underdog: “I like the chances of Ruiz. It seems to me that in the fight with Luis Ortiz, he already looked better. Good win. And I see him as the winner in the fight with Deontay. Yes, Wilder looked good against Robert Helenius. He, perhaps, has already passed his best years. I agree that Wilder is still very dangerous.”
Hearn is pleased that both ex-champions remain in the game: “Wilder is just a great character for this sport. Ruiz is a real warrior. He will be ready to answer Deontay with blows for blows. He has exactly the kind of style that at times Wilder really doesn’t like. He is a low heavyweight. This is what really hindered Joshua in his time. Wilder vs Ruiz is a good fight. I hope it takes place. Joshua vs Ruiz 3? Why not? If Andy upsets Deontay…”
In the meantime, the Juggernaut is already ready to fight the knockout. And trainer Joshua spoke out about a possible fight with Wilder – you will not like what you hear.
