Former world champion in four weight categories, 54-year-old Roy Jones Jr. completed his professional appearances in 2018, although after that he “indulged” in an exhibition fight against Mike Tyson at the close of 2020.
Answering a question
Vegas Insiderwith whom of the current tops of world boxing he would like to box, return to his fighting heyday and the best years of his career, Roy named the current unified world light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.
“If I could compare my skills against any fighter of this era, it would be Artur Beterbiev, because of his power. He is an incredibly strong puncher, and I would be happy to accept such a challenge and fight him, ”admitted Jones.
Recall that very soon, on January 28, in London (England), Beterbiev must defend his titles against the local mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde (23-2, 22 KOs).
“I think he has an edge against Yard,” says Roy. “Although Yard has sparred with him before, so he knows him. My point is that if Yard wanted to fight him in a real fight after sparring, that says a lot about Anthony.”
By the way, Yard wants to arrange a slugfest with Beterbiev: “No more games!”
