Rodriguez failed a doping test and pulled out of his fight against Ponzinibbio

UFC welterweight Daniel Rodriguez failed a doping test and has dropped out of the UFC Fight Night 227 event where he was scheduled to face Santiago Ponzinibbio on Sept. 16.

The American fighter released a statement to that effect on social media, revealing that his doping sample tested positive for ostarine.

“I firmly believe the reason for the failed test is a contaminated sports supplement and I am actively working with my manager, USADA and the UFC to verify the supplements I was taking prior to the test,” Rodriguez wrote.

It is unknown at this time if the Argentine will remain on the tournament’s card, or leave following his eliminated opponent.

Daniel Rodriguez, 36, goes on a streak of two early losses, losing by choke to Neil Magny, and losing by technical knockout to Ian Machado Garry.
