Robert Whittaker reveals plan for fight with Khamzat Chimaev

Gilbert Burns, who two years ago became the first opponent of Khamzat Chimaev not to lose early, has shown how to fight the Chechen fighter, according to former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, who will share the octagon with “Borz” in a month.

“Gilbert Burns took away his wrestling power and then put him in a dangerous position in the standup, and my punches are crisper and cleaner than Burns’,” the Australian told Fox Sports Australia. “My distance is great for throwing those punches and it will be easier for me to defend against the knockdowns. The result will be different because I’ll be able to control the distance and space.”

However, Whittaker is not afraid of the Chimaev fight and is ready to compete with him in this aspect if plan “A” doesn’t work out.

“I’m ready to fight Khamzat. It’s a five-round fight and his pace will be a little different, otherwise, it’s going to be a short night for him.”

As a reminder, the middleweight contender fight between Robert Whittaker and Hamzat Chimaev will be the main event of UFC on ABC 6, which takes place on June 22 in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
