Former UFC middleweight titleholder Robert Whittaker, who sensationally lost by technical knockout to Dricus Du Plessis in his previous fight, is confident in his superiority over the division’s new champion.
“I still believe I will beat him nine times out of ten, that I’m a better fighter and that my skill set is better than his,” Whittaker said at a press conference in Sydney. “I came into the fight against a strong and hungry guy who was ready to leave everything he had in the octagon. I should have taken that into consideration but I didn’t. Now I have food for thought.”
After defeating the Australian in his next fight, the South African fighter defeated Sean Strickland by split decision to become the new UFC middleweight champion, while Robert Whittaker will try to get his career back on track against Brazilian Paulo Costa, who he will share the octagon with on Feb. 17 at UFC 298 in Anaheim.
At the moment, 33-year-old Robert Whittaker continues to sit at No. 3 in the UFC’s middleweight division rankings.
