Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald to be inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

One of the most spectacular and bloody fights in the history of mixed martial arts will be immortalized in the UFC Hall of Fame.

UFC President Dana White has officially announced that the epic battle between Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald, which took place eight years ago, will join the so-called “Fighting Wing” of the Hall of Fame at a gala ceremony in Las Vegas this summer.

“The fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald at UFC 189 was one of the most exciting fights in UFC history,” the league chief said in a press release. “It was an absolute war and an unprecedented display of courage, resilience, determination and the will to win on both sides. This classic five-round fight will be remembered as one of the best and I look forward to inducting it into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”

In July 2015 at UFC 189 in Las Vegas, Robbie Lawler successfully defended the UFC Welterweight Championship by defeating Rory McDonald by TKO in the fifth round. The bout comes two years after Lawler defeated McDonald in three rounds by split decision at UFC 167 in Las Vegas.
