Alamodome, San Antonio, USA. In the main event of the show, the WBC featherweight champion (up to 57.2 kg) Filipino Mark Magsio (24-1, 16 KOs) lost the title to the ex-owner of the same belt, but a division lower than the Mexican Ray Vargas (36-0, 22 KOs) .

The battle began without reconnaissance. Magsayo tried to close the distance at lightning speed. It turned out that Vargas was not keeping up with him – the champion brought several overhands to the goal. The Mexican, unable to control the distance with a jab, tried to intercept – a little better.

By the 3rd round, Vargas was already in control of the fight: he took the center of the ring, read and failed the champion’s sweeping attacks, outran with a left hook and a straight right, shot with a jab, punched a lot in the body. Magsaio sometimes managed to counter the challenger well (left counterhook), once he hit right straight towards him. But he was not in control of the battle.

In the 7th round, the fighters clashed heads. A cut appeared near the left eye of Vargas. The applicant began to act too carelessly, for which he paid in the 9th round – he missed the meeting, was knocked down. Magsayo’s attempts to finish him off turned out to be ridiculous – he swung his fists through the air.

The long-armed challenger continued to dig a hole for himself: he turned off the jab, offered to cut. He was again on the canvas, but the referee did not record a knockdown. It was evident that Vargas was shocked, lost his footwork and no longer controlled the course of the fight. Magsayo straight forward continued to rush at the Mexican, allowing him to return to the fight. Looks like we have a new champion.
