Rafael Fiziev addressed the fans after the defeat

Two days after his defeat in the fight against Mateusz Gamrot, Azerbaijani lightweight Rafael Fiziyev addressed his fans, telling them about his well-being and the injury, which in the second round did not allow him to continue the fight.

“To everyone who supports me, I want to say a big thank you,” “Ataman” said in a video posted on social media. “I’m almost in the mood to go on social media right now, you guys understand for yourselves.”

“Completely tore up my knee. It’s something that had to happen. We have our own plans, but God has His own plans and they are always better than ours. I’ll recover and come back with good strength. The only thing is, I’m very upset that it happened in the second round. I was one hundred percent ready, I was in great shape, I followed my plan, and I was going to put on the most beautiful fight”

Sources close to the fighter’s team report that Fisiev suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. The standard recovery time after such an injury is at least eight months.

The top lightweight fight, which headlined last weekend’s UFC Fight Night 228 event in Las Vegas, was stopped at the 2:03 mark of the second round after Fisiev landed a right kick to the body, grabbed his left knee and collapsed to the canvas, while Gamrot, despite his opponent’s apparent injury, rushed to finish him, forcing referee Herb Dean to intervene. According to the judges’ notes, before getting injured, “The Ataman” won the first round by unanimous decision.
