Rafael Fisiev has been successfully operated on

Rafael Fiziev, who was injured two weeks ago in a fight against Mateusz Gamrot, has undergone a successful surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

“Just had surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament of my left knee,” Ataman wrote on social media. “Same injury I had three years ago. I will come back stronger than I was before. Recovery starts now. Thank you all for your support!”

Fiziev also published a short video from the hospital room, made directly after the surgery.

The top lightweight fight, which headlined UFC Fight Night 228 in Las Vegas on Sept. 23, was stopped at the 2:03 mark of the second round after Fiziev grabbed his left knee with a right kick to the body and collapsed to the canvas. According to the judges’ notes, before getting hurt, Ataman won the first round by unanimous decision.

With the win over Fisiev, Gamroth moved his injured opponent off the sixth spot in the UFC lightweight rankings. In addition, the Pole has been named the alternate for the title fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, which will take place Oct. 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
