Piotr Jan received a challenge from a top contender

The UFC’s No. 7 ranked lightweight division, Song Yadong, welcomed with excitement the news that former division champion, Peter Yan, plans to return to the octagon in March.

According to the Chinese, who is scheduled for a five-round bout with Chris Gutierrez, he will be ready to share the octagon with the Russian after defeating the American.

“Yes, after this fight I want to fight Petr,” Song said in an interview with James Lynch. “I want to find out whose boxing in the lightweight division is better. I think I need to get two wins. In my next fight, then beat Petr, and then I’ll get a title shot.”

A flyweight fight between Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez will headline UFC Fight Night 233 on Dec. 9 in Las Vegas, while Petr Yan is scheduled to fight next on March 9 at UFC 299.

According to the Chinese side, Petr Yan refused to fight Song Yadong in December, but the Russian team claims that they did not receive an offer for this fight.

UFC Fight Night 233 was originally scheduled to take place in China, but eventually the world’s strongest league decided to move the event to the United States.
