Piotr Jan pulls out of the fight for an extended period of time

Former UFC lightweight champion Peter Yan, who was scheduled to fight two fights before the end of the year, will likely return to the octagon in a year at the earliest.

The Russian fighter, who announced his upcoming surgery today, announced the medical diagnosis that has put him under the surgeon’s knife and indicates that his fans should be patient.

“So, MRI confirmed a torn cruciate ligament in the knee, a torn meniscus and a groin injury. Surgery’s scheduled for tomorrow. Nothing is going to break me. I’m determined to come back stronger than I’ve ever been,” Ian wrote on social media.

The estimated recovery time from such injuries is nine months to a year.

Ten days ago at UFC 299 in Miami, Petr Yan successfully resumed his career after a one-year layoff, winning a three-round unanimous decision over China’s Song Yadong. In doing so, the Russian put his career back on track after three straight losses to Aljamain Sterling, Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.
