UFC 259 tournament bout

The upcoming UFC 259 tournament promises to be a grand event, as three title fights will take place on the night of Saturday to Sunday, March 7, in Las Vegas (USA).

The UFC 259 main event, which sees light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz take on middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, is getting the majority of the fan’s attention. But besides this, the card has a whole bunch of interesting fights.

The first defense of the bantamweight title of Petr Yan, who will face Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259, looks very intriguing.

Undefeated in the UFC, Ian took over his belt in July at UFC 251, fighting the legendary Brazilian for the vacant regalia and finishing him with a technical knockout in the 5th round. This is the second consecutive victory of the Russian over the eminent veteran, 7 months before the fight with Aldo, Yan knocked out Urijah Feiber.

In 2016-2017, Sterling lost three out of five fights in the UFC. After losing by knockout to Marlon Moraes, he is on a five win streak. Sterling had his Candidates fight in June last year, strangling Corey Sandhagen in a minute and a half.

Prediction for the fight

Yang poses the main danger in the standing position, with excellent stamina, he throws a lot of punches and works at a high pace. The champion is also distinguished by good defense against transfers to the ground.

Sterling is a basic black belt wrestler in BJJ. He does not have striking power as such, and in the stance he can hardly compete with Jan.

In the confrontation between a striker and a wrestler, the one who manages to realize his advantages wins. The longer arms of his opponent can interfere with Jan’s stand-up work, and when closing, Sterling can take the champion to the ground and try to make a submission. We believe that the challenger will succeed in takedowns and, due to his struggle, he will eventually win in a difficult duel.
