Petr Yan – about his hand block: “I lure my opponents with it, they think I’m tired”

Interim UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, in an interview with Sport-Express at the RCC press conference, spoke about his style of putting a high boxing block.

– In MMA, many hold their hands high, but apart from you, no one knows how to block like that. How did you come to such a setting of the block and can you imagine yourself in a style where hands will be lowered?

– With my hands down, I will not fight for sure, because it is very dangerous. And the fact that I overlap like that – in the last year and a half of boxing, 2011-2012 – they introduced a new rule, it was called “boxing in a box.” Previously, there were 4 rounds of 2 minutes, then they returned to the old ones – 3 to 3. And everyone started boxing like that – in this box. I liked it. In MMA, with this block, it turns out to take a lot of blows on yourself – this is also damage to health. But I personally did not receive such strong blows, tangible. And with this block I lure my opponents, they think that I am tired when I get up in such a defense. But I like her.

On October 30, Yan defeated Corey Sandhagen via unanimous decision at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi to become the interim champion.
