Putting his career back on track after a one-year hiatus, former UFC flyweight champion Petr Yan was unable to come out injury-free from his fight against Song Yadong, whom he defeated by unanimous decision at UFC 299 in Miami.
In an interview with the channel “Ushataika” reported the Russian’s manager, Sayat Abdrakhmanov.
“Peter had an injury to the right groin muscle, the whole last month a strong load was on the left leg,” Abdrakhmanov reported. “And what happened was that in the first round Petr’s left knee twitched, you saw moments where he was very unstable, and he was trying to readjust, to change stands, to find balance”
“Knee injury in the first round, it is most likely the meniscus – after MRI will be seen. That is, there were difficulties in the course of the fight, and we had to rebuild. Initially the plan was to kick a lot, to work on floors – body, head, legs”
However, the manager is hopeful that his charge will be able to make two more fights before the end of the year.
“Now we need to heal injuries, to train constantly, not to make long pauses, to keep ourselves in shape. Petr wants to stay active and have at least two more fights this year”
