Peter Yan: “I love my country and raise the flag with pride!”

Former UFC lightweight champion Petr Yan is excited about the news that he will be able to fly the Russian flag for his next fight, as the world’s strongest league has lifted a ban on displaying national symbols in the octagon that had been in place for nearly two years.

“Yes, of course – this is great news!” the Russian said in an interview with the channel “Ushataika”. “I love my country and I fly the flag with pride, with desire, setting an example for the youth. So this is great news.”

Earlier, the Russian fighter said he plans to return to the octagon on March 9 at UFC 299, the venue of which remains unknown. In March of this year, Petr Yan suffered his third consecutive defeat, losing to Georgian representative Merab Dvalishvili by unanimous decision over five rounds, and is currently ranked fifth in the organization’s lightweight division rankings.

Recall that a general ban on the display of state flags in the UFC was introduced with the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, however, this reason was not officially announced.

“You yourself know why,” – answered in due time the head of the UFC, Dana White, answering the corresponding question of a journalist.
