Peter Yan has turned down an offer from the UFC

Former UFC lightweight champion Peter Yan, who a week ago successfully returned to the octagon after a one-year hiatus, has refused to sign a new deal with the world’s strongest league.

The Russian fighter said this in an interview with the press service of the Archangel Michael club

“I have two fights left on my contract,” Yan stated. “After the previous fight, which was not in our favor, I was immediately offered a new contract for six more fights, but I did not sign it. I need to improve my position, come back, and there will already be another conversation and other negotiations. It will be more correct”

“We need to have a few fights to really get back into the title race. It’s a very unclear situation in the division right now, there are a lot of both contenders and decent guys. Absolutely, I believe I can break into the title race once again and prove myself.”

On March 9 at UFC 299 in Las Vegas, Peter Yan snapped a three-fight losing streak by defeating China’s Song Yadong by unanimous decision to retain his No. 4 ranking in the UFC’s lightweight division.

Earlier, the Russian said he plans to have two more fights before the end of the year.
