UFC Fight Night 186 tournament bout

UFC this week for the second time in a row will hold a good tournament of the UFC Fight Night series with an interesting duel of heavyweights at the head of the card. On Sunday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA), the UFC Fight Night 186 tournament will take place, which will decorate the fight between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Cyril Gein.

In one of the main fights of the show, the still top 10 bantamweight fighters Munoz and Rivera will meet for the second time in the octagon. In November 2015 at UFC Fight Night 77, the first fight of these fighters ended with Rivera’s victory by a split decision.

In June 2019, Aljamain Sterling ended Munoz’s three win streak, including a knockout of Cody Garbrandt, with a unanimous decision. Munoz returned 14 months later to lose a split decision to Frankie Edgar.

In 2018-2019, Rivera lost 3 out of 4 fights. After being knocked out by Marlon Moraes, he won a unanimous decision over John Dodson, only to lose consecutively to Sterling and Petr Yan with the same outcome. The Horror closed the losses in July, moving up to featherweight, he confidently won on points against Cody Stamann.

Prediction for the fight

Munoz, although he is able to fight in a stand-up position and even knock out opponents, he still gravitates to the ground more, being the owner of a black belt in BJJ. He is a persistent fighter, all his five defeats are only on referee’s notes.

Rivera also has a black belt in Kyokushin Karate. Therefore, he prefers to fight in the stance, River compensates for the lack of a knockout blow with excellent technique.

Rivera is not profitable on the ground, if his generally good defense against takedowns does not falter, then he has every chance to defeat Munoz again. It is unlikely that the fight will be easy for Rivera, but we give preference to his karate skills in this pair.
