Pedraza vs Commey. The winner will have a chance to get even with Lomachenko

On the last Saturday of the summer, former lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (29-4, 14 KOs) will enter the ring against the same “ex” Richard Commey (30-4, 27 KOs). This was confirmed by ESPN insider Mike Coppinger in
Twitter. The fight will take place on August 27 in super lightweight (up to 63.5 kg).

It is noteworthy that both of these worthy guys at one time lost by unanimous decisions of the judges to the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko. At the end of 2021, Commey lost to him in a fight for the vacant WBO Interconti Championship belt, and three years earlier, Pedraza blundered in unification.

The winner of the meeting between Pedraza and Commey is unlikely to get a new title chance: the absolute lightweight Devin Haney is not up to fights of this level now.

But success at the end of the summer will definitely bring one of them closer to a rematch with the still quite popular (and money) Lomachenko, if – and when – he decides to return to the ring. Commey said in April that his “heart is with Lomachenko.”

Garcia was not shy when commenting on Lomachenko’s speech

Pedraza held the IBF 59kg title from 2015-2017, and briefly held the WBO 61.2kg title in 2018. Commey also held the IBF lightweight belt in 2019.
