Australian IBF world heavyweight champion (up to 90.7 kg) Jay Opetaya (21-0, 17 KOs), who is slowly recovering from injuries received in early July in a victorious fight against Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs ), recalled the main goal in boxing – to collect as many titles as possible. It is desirable, of course, to become an absolute.
“Ultimately, I would like to get unification fights. You know [с чемпионами по] WBO and WBC. The goal is to take these belts. When it happens, then it happens,” he told Sky Sports.
The WBC champion here is the Congolese Ilunga Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs), who, to be honest, lost his last fight, but the judges decided otherwise. The WBO belt is honestly owned by Briton Lawrence Okoli (18-0, 14 KOs).

Opetai’s first defense: after Briedis they want a “home brawl”
Opetaya added that he relies on his team in everything, which has already brought him to the title and, the fighter believes, will bring him to the rest of the regalia.
Recall that in the fight against the Latvian, Jay suffered fractures of the lower jaw on both sides. Mairis seems to have gotten off lightly, but he is still storming at home because of his unwillingness to call the Russians occupiers.
