UFC on ESPN 20 tournament bout

This week, the UFC will hold two tournaments with spectators at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi (UAE). Sunday night/morning hosts UFC 257 with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in the lead, and Wednesday night hosts UFC on ESPN 20, also known as UFC Fight Island 8.

The preliminary card will end the #13 middleweight bout between Akhmedov and Tom Breeze.

Since the end of 2016, all the fights of Akhmedov have certainly gone the whole distance, during which time the native of Dagestan has collected a record of 5-1-1. He will return after losing to former UFC champion Chris Weidman in August, which ended Akhmedov’s three-fight streak over Tim Boatch, Zach Cummings and Ian Heinish.

Brees’ career in the UFC started with three consecutive wins, but then he lost two of his four fights. Due to psychological problems, the Briton missed 2019, returning in February 2020 to lose by knockout to Brendan Allen in the first round. But in October, Breeze finished in less than two minutes with KB Bullar’s punches.

Prediction for the fight

Akhmedov is a basic wrestler who subsequently successfully competed in hand-to-hand combat and combat sambo. He can be safely attributed to the wagon fighters, he is equally strong on the ground and on his feet.

Breeze is more grounded on the ground, where he knows how to finish opponents both with tricks and with a hail of blows. On the ground, he will probably have an advantage, as for the stance, here the forces of the fighters are approximately equal, unless Breeze will be able to benefit from the difference in height (191 cm versus 183 cm for Akhmedov). On paper, a very equal fight, but still suppose that Akhmedov, due to his wrestling, will keep the fight on his feet and, thanks to his activity, will be able to convince the judges to record him as the winner.
