Olympic taekwondo medalist Robelis Despain is signed to the UFC

Cuban heavyweight Robelis Despain, 35, who won a bronze medal in taekwondo at the 2012 London Olympics, has signed with the world’s strongest league.

In mixed martial arts, the two-meter Cuban has fought four bouts, knocking out all opponents in the first round with a total of 21 seconds spent on his last three opponents.

Despain earned his fourth win, which secured him a UFC contract, this past weekend under the Fury FC banner with a six-second split decision over Myles Banks.

In addition to his Olympic medal, the Cuban has two bronze medals from the World Championships and in 2014 won gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

There is no word yet on when Robelis Despain will make his debut under the organization’s banner.
