USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 1
Have to note that the logo on the center of the canvas became a real problem for slippage in the co-feature fight. Could be an issue here, if not right away then once the sweat and grease and oil start getting on it again.
Joshua’s guard is a little bit left by
Usyk AJ and Joshua are standing in the middle of the ring. They’re just kinda flicking punches around, getting it out. As you would expect, Usyk moves a lot and makes feints. Joshua pushing the jab out, not landing. Joshua looking to the body, lands a right there. Usyk with another left up top. Usyk now reaches for his body. Usyk is a hard worker. AJ moved his head back a little. They tie up a moment later. Left hand from Usyk again late.
Usyk 10-9
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 2
Joshua shoots a right to the body. It was notable that Joshua spoke to Angel Fernandez in round 1. Usyk continues to move and move. Joshua is landing some good shots, but he’s now looking at the body and then he goes upstairs for a right. Left hook, right behind from AJ. He didn’t land but it is clear that he does have something. Joshua bends his knees. He looks very confident. Up-jab again from Usyk, though. AJ back with his own jab. Joshua is flirting with Usyk, but he’s not ready to go there. Right hand from Joshua. One more gets in. Good round for AJ.
Joshua 10-9, 19-19
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 3
Joshua is sharp and focused. He has been an excellent boxer-puncher in this fight, and he isn’t brawling recklessly. If it happens, he may. But he is fighting very well and not going to the next level. Usyk has some left but is peppering and looking for opportunities to land. The peppering could help him break Joshua’s rhythm as much as anything. Joshua is the best here but Usyk takes a right in. We’ll watch to see if Usyk opens up the gun more in the future.
Joshua 10-9, 29-28
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 4
This is very good boxing, and both men are doing a great job. Joshua is starting to appear more like he’d love to take some power shots with Usyk. But it’s hard work. Another tight round here. It’s very chess matchy. If AJ did have the momentum, I think Usyk pushed it back a bit this round.
Usyk 10-9, 38-38
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 5
Sweeping right from AJ doesn’t land, Usyk gets the glove there. Usyk’s left to the body has been quietly doing some damage, might be building up some damage. Body shot by AJ goes low. He knows immediately, but doesn’t bother to check up. Usyk, who was seen moving around in a dramatic manner as the shot landed, seemed more like a groin than a thigh. But, he was back in action quickly. Think AJ is now maybe still trying to box too much, going back to the last fight. Usyk is building his own momentum now and it might be time for Plan B, if there is one. It wasn’t the last time. And often with AJ, there hasn’t been.
Usyk 10-9, 48-47
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 6
The side of Joshua wants the double jab. However, the jab isn’t being thrown right now with zip. That happened in the first fight. He started this fight with it looking sharper. Usyk keeps going and boxes like he does. He’s already made small adjustments. Joshua now looking for some hard shots, does get a couple body shots in. Right hook from Usyk, his combinations are starting to flow a little more. Usyk closing this round strong, shots to the head and the body, then back to the head. It was a close match, but Usyk is my choice.
Usyk 10-9, 58-56
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 7
I feel that Usyk just wants to be himself, and it’s giving AJ fits once again. Meanwhile, AJ seems to want perfection, trying to get into his head as much As Usyk gets into it. AJ has fought harder, but is that enough? Is there another gear? Head movements giving AJ fits. Body shot from Usyk, then a left hand. Then another left hand. And another. Joshua attempts a hook, but the hook doesn’t go far enough. Usyk is out of reach. Usyk’s cerebral nature is winning the fight again right now.
Usyk 10-9, 68-65
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 8
Now we have the problem with the canvas in the middle of the ring. Joshua with a good body shot just about a minute in, and another one with the left hook. The right hand from the top misses. Usyk got out of his way. Usyk goes back to peppering, when he loses rhythm, he does this, but this time AJ is back at the body with great shots, and Usyk must clinch him up as he approaches the ropes. Great body shots from AJ. Usyk with a little combo, AJ back with a little right that disrupts it, and Usyk blows his nose. More good body shots from AJ after an uppercut from Usyk. Joshua did a great round.
Joshua 10-9, Usyk 77-75
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 9
Joshua could need to be more assertive, but Usyk may also make it easier for him. It’s risk/reward, and it’s a risk AJ probably needs to take to win this. He doesn’t NEED a KO but you must win rounds. Usyk more stationary this round, AJ trying to take advantage. Joshua is getting rough. He’s got the crowd and he’s doing some good work. Joshua throws the hammer to the head first, and it’s really dirty. He gets briefly warned, but AJ’s feeling it and trying to get at Usyk! Usyk has clearly begun to retreat. Left hook from AJ, his aggression is working now! The body shots have set this up and they keep coming in, too. It is by far the most impressive fight AJ had against Usyk, both in his first fight and this evening’s two rounds.
Joshua 10-9, Usyk 86-85
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 10
Usyk coming out with a more aggressive stance this round, lands a good little check hook, slips under, and now he’s landing shots! Big left from Usyk! AJ’s rocked just a bit! Usyk with another left! He knows he lost the momentum and he’s TAKING it back! From Usyk: Body shot Joshua back with a right hand! USYK rocked quite a bit! Joshua is waging war on him, but Usyk pulls it off. Although he thought the shot was low, the fight continues. Another left from Usyk, though. Uppercut and right hook from Usyk! Usyk is putting pressure on and landing great shots. Joshua leans back to the ropes, that’s a bad sign. The legs look worn. Joshua tried a right hook, but it was not effective. Usyk won’t take bait if there is one, but Usyk takes another right hook and more shots. AJ gets hurt again with a head and body shot late.
Usyk 10-9, 96-94
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 11
Usyk using a strong right hook. AJ is trying to locate the body, but Usyk just swarms him. Usyk is always careful to tie him up when he comes near the ropes, so he doesn’t slip away. Right hand street down from Usyk. AJ is really trying but Usyk is just better than him again at the moment. Body shot again from AJ, then a little shot on the break which Usyk acknowledges.
Usyk 10-9, 106-103
USYK vs JOSHUA: Round 12
Neither man can believe they are winning here. Usyk must think that he is up. But he will be fighting here. AJ with a body shot and a right up top. Usyk is moving again and peppering. Three-punch combo from Usyk. AJ is now using a left hook and a right-hand. He’s gotta go for broke, but Usyk goes back to the body and then to the head. Joshua didn’t have the money to buy out all of them. Usyk with a right hook as he peppers away again. Joshua gets a right hook, and Usyk keeps spinning the ball. Usyk’s right hook. The cards are going to be dealt. I think Usyk earned it again.
Usyk 10-9, 116-112
