Nurmagomedov made a statement about his disqualification

The still reigning Bellator lightweight champion, Usman Nurmagomedov, commented on the information about his disqualification due to a failed doping test.

“I want to give a short comment on the latest news regarding my suspension,” the Russian wrote on social media. “In the results of my test they found a banned substance, which got into my body through the medication prescribed to me by my doctor

“A few months before my fight I had a course of treatment, but unfortunately I did not notify the Athletic Commission in advance. I would like to point out that the state commission conducted its own full investigation, where I submitted all the necessary documents, statements and medical certificates, thanks to which my disqualification was reduced to six months, instead of the longer suspensions applied in such cases.”

The day before, the head of the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster, reported that Usman Nurmagomedov failed a doping test after the semifinal match of the Bellator lightweight grand prix, in which he defeated American Brent Primus by unanimous decision. As a result, the commission decided to cancel the result of the fight, recognizing it as a forfeit, and Nurmagomedov will lose his place in the grand final to Primus, who will face the winner of the semifinal match between Alexander Shabliy and Patricky Freire.

It is not yet known if the grand prix finalists will fight for the vacant Bellator lightweight championship belt, or if the organization will decide to introduce an interim title.

Recall that the title fight between Usman Nurmagomedov and Brent Primus on October 7 topped the Bellator 300 tournament in San Diego, and after winning the fight, the 25-year-old Russian climbed to the third line in the ranking of the best fighters of the organization regardless of weight category.
