Diaz vs. Ferguson took place Sept. 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Nate Diaz (21-13) and Tony Ferguson (25-8) collided in the main event. The fight aired live on UFC pay-per-view.

Round 1

Ferguson swiftly brushes aside Diaz’s slapping. Ferguson already spun some s***. There is no feeling out here.

The action slows down, and Diaz seems to be content to allow Ferguson to advance. Blood streaming down from a cut on Ferguson’s left leg from a checked kick. Ferguson imitates Diaz’s sideways position and laughs. Ferguson with a couple of leg kicks. Ferguson is right handed to his body. There’s Diaz with a clean left hand across the face and Ferguson daps him up for it.

Ferguson moves ahead of Diaz, who counterpunches with a strong punch. Ferguson starts with an elbow. Diaz takes it in and strikes Ferguson with a combination. Ferguson responds with a powerful kick to his body. Diaz is able to see the distance and throws a few punches. Ferguson’s spinning attack is not close. Diaz ends Round 1 with a short combo.

Round 2

Diaz with a sweet set-up to land a hard outside leg kick. Ferguson sneaks a right hand through Diaz’s defenses. Diaz chases and Ferguson clips him with a jab. Diaz confidently throws that jab. Ferguson defends against a combination. Ferguson looking loose now and that right hand lands again.

Diaz with a straight left. Ferguson grabs a leg, and scores with an inside leg kick. Diaz steps in front of him and he hits an inside leg kick. Diaz going headhunting now. Ferguson is having problems with his right eye. Ninety seconds remaining and Diaz starts turning it on again.

Diaz left overhand Diaz scores with a combination. Ferguson wants to stay in the pocket, but Diaz circling and using his range.

Round 3

Ferguson tries to support Diaz with kicks but Diaz keeps leaning forward looking for punches. Diaz reacts to a hard, inside leg kick. He circles away and Ferguson just stands in the middle of the octagon, pointing to an imaginary watch. Diaz is taunted as he flops on his back. Goddard beckons Diaz to return to center and continue fighting.

Hard exchange between the fighters as the action resumes, then Diaz hits Ferguson with a loud leg kick. Diaz smiles and takes a breather against the cage. It got really bizarre very quickly.

Ferguson does more leg kicks. Diaz taking a… casual approach, to put it gently. Diaz is a puncher. Ferguson evasive. Diaz turns his back to Ferguson and starts shouting at someone cageside.

Diaz doing good work when he’s taking this seriously. Now it’s Ferguson on the back foot. Diaz doing the damage with his body kicks. He bends over and invites Ferguson to attack him. Ferguson not looking as relaxed as he was a few minutes ago. Ferguson is hit with a jab. Diaz throws to the head and this is another strong finish to a round for him, albeit an incredibly strange round.

Round 4

Ferguson returns to his body using kicks. He dives in for an ankle pick and Diaz just steps out of it. Diaz performs front kicks on the body. Ferguson having success with the jab and he follows up with an inside leg kick. Ferguson’s shovel punch lands just before Diaz circles out. This round is slow for Diaz. Will he be able to turn the tide as usual late?

Right on cue, Diaz connects with a hard shot and Ferguson has to retreat. Diaz is hit with multiple punches. Ferguson is just trying to keep his feet on the ground. He smacks Diaz with a left hook to the body. Diaz punching Ferguson’s body, then he goes back to the head. Takedown by Ferguson, but he falls right into a guillotine. Diaz quickly sinks the tap!
