The heavy weight race was the reason for the unsuccessful performance of Benil Dariush in the candidates’ fight with Charles Oliveira, says the American’s teammate, Marvin Vettori.
“I know that he doesn’t even talk about it, because he doesn’t want it to look like an excuse – he’s not that kind of person,” MMAnews quotes the Italian fighter. “With his weight cutter, everything immediately went wrong. We all have heavy weight races, and he himself does not consider this an excuse, but I’m just saying what happened.
A potential lightweight contender fight that took place last weekend at UFC 289 in Vancouver ended with the Brazilian winning by TKO in the first round.
At the official weigh-in procedure before the event, Benil Dariush successfully kept within the upper limit of the lightweight division, but did not look the best on the scales, while Charles Oliveira, who made weight with a large margin, looked much fresher and more cheerful than his opponent.
Recall that Marvin Vettori will have to stand on the scales today at the official weigh-in procedure before the UFC on ESPN 47 tournament, in the main event of which he will meet with American Jared Cannonier.
