The third fight between the legendary antagonists – Mexican Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 37 KOs) and Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) – failed to reinforce the financial success of the previous two fights. Talks about it

The fight is rumored to have generated between 550,000 and 575,000 pay-per-view (PPV) sales. The previous two fights brought the organizers much more – 1.3 million and 1.1 million PPV, respectively. At the same time, it is worth noting that the cost of broadcasting the first battle was 70 USD, and the second and third – 85 USD each.

The confrontation of the legends began in September 2017 – Golovkin defended the WBC, WBA Super, IBF middleweight belts, and brought the fight to a draw. Exactly 12 months later, Canelo won by majority decision and took away the WBC and WBA Super belts from the Kazakhstani.

The third bout took place last weekend – they fought for all the super middleweight belts. Alvarez confidently defended the title of absolute champion, although the judges made it look like a competitive fight. All three fights were T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas (USA).

It’s no secret that bosses

expected to see other figures. In May, Canelo’s fight with light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol brought the platform 520 thousand PPV. But the appearance of Alvarez on Showtime within the show RVS Al Haymon turned out to be more successful – the fight for the title of the absolute in 76.2 kg with Caleb Plant generated 800 thousand PPV.

After the fight, ex-coach Golovkin said that Canelo did not improve, GGG from the first fight would have destroyed him. And the ex-champion from Mexico believes that the Kazakhstani just survived in a fight with Alvarez, and Ramirez will beat Bivol.
