Despite the American’s apparent reluctance to take the fight, UFC welterweight No. 5 Movsar Yevloyev has not given up hope of sharing the octagon with eighth-ranked Aljamain Sterling in his next fight.
“Yevloev and Ortega are both interesting opponents in terms of competition in grappling. Who do I want to fight? With whoever is higher in the rankings, and that’s Brian Ortega,” the former UFC flyweight champion wrote on social media, answering fan questions.
It didn’t take long for the Russian to respond.
“Just admit the truth – you want to get an easier fight. Unlike Ortega, I’m ready to fight. Let’s do it already!”,” Yevloyev wrote.
Aljamain Sterling made a successful welterweight debut in April, defeating fellow countryman Kelvin Kattar by unanimous decision at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.
Undefeated Movsar Yevloyev earned his eighth UFC victory in January with a unanimous decision over fellow Brit Arnold Allen.
Brian Ortega, who rounds out the division’s top three, returned to the octagon in February after a year-and-a-half hiatus and snapped a two-fight losing streak with a third-round arm-triangle choke finish of Yair Rodriguez.
