Movsar Yevloyev challenges Brian Ortega

No. 5 ranked UFC welterweight Movsar Yevloev wants former title challenger Brian Ortega as his next opponent, as he made a successful return to the octagon after a lengthy layoff with an early victory over former interim division champion Yair Rodriguez.

“Me vs. Brian Ortega for the title of number one contender,” the Russian wrote on social media.

The featherweight fight between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez, which was the second main event of UFC Fight Night 237 in Mexico City, ended early in the third round with the American winning by arm-triangle choke. At the time of the fight, Rodriguez and Ortega were ranked third and fourth in the UFC’s featherweight division rankings, respectively.

Undefeated Movsar Yevloev earned his eighth UFC victory this past January with a unanimous decision win over Britain’s Arnold Allen.

Recall that the current UFC featherweight champion is Spanish-Georgian fighter Ilia Topuria, who a week ago at UFC 298 in Anaheim took the title from Alex Volkanovski by knocking out the Australian in the second round.
