The UFC’s No. 5 ranked welterweight, Movsar Yevloev, reacted to the striking victory of Elijah Topuria, who knocked out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 in Anaheim to become the division’s new champion.
“Congratulations to the new champion. I will come after you and take this belt from you,” the Russian wrote on social media, referring to the Spanish-Georgian fighter.
Undefeated Movsar Yevloev picked up his eighth UFC win this past January with a unanimous decision over Britain’s Arnold Allen, but his performance did not impress the organization’s head, Dana White, who criticized the Russian welterweight for his lack of finishing skills.
If Alex Volkanovski does not get an immediate rematch, the best chance of sharing the octagon with the new champion will go to the winner of the fight between Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega, which will take place next week in Mexico.
