UFC Fight Night 177 main event
Next Sunday, UFC APEX in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) will once again host the tournament of the world’s leading promotion without the admission of spectators. And UFC Fight Night 177 is another UFC event hit by COVID-19.
Brazilian light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos were originally scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 177, but their fight was canceled after Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, in the main event of the tournament we will see representatives of the minimum weight, two ex-champions of Invicta FC Waterson and Hill.
Waterson was on a good three win streak before facing Joanna Jedrzejczyk in October 2019. Poland’s Michelle lost by unanimous decision before losing to Carla Esparza by split decision in May, in what was Waterson’s sixth consecutive fight to go the distance.
Hill will also return after losing a split decision – in May, two judges felt that Claudia Gadelha was better than her. The loss ended the Overkill streak of three wins.
Prediction for the fight
Judging by the style of the girls, you should expect an uphill battle in the stand. Hill is a pronounced kickboxer who is still not very good at the grappling component and tends to slow down towards the end of the fight.
Waterson has had problems with bigger opponents, but Hill is almost unbeatable in size. Waterson is a massively underrated grappler with great clinch takedowns and dangerous submission play. Waterson can use her punches to land a takedown, and once Hill is on the ground, she should have the skill to land a rear naked choke.
Waterson wins by submission in the 2nd round
