Michael Chiesa pulls out of Kevin Lee fight

Left without an opponent due to an injury to Lee Jinliang, American welterweight Michael Chiesa refused to share the octagon with his compatriot Kevin Lee, who accepted the fight on short notice.

“I got a call a week ago saying that Michael Chiesa’s opponent was out with an injury and I accepted the fight, agreeing to come out on short notice,” Lee wrote on the social network. “Today I was told that Chiesa has refused a rematch. I don’t care about money, ratings, and popularity anymore – I just wanted to put on a show for the whole world, but it looks like I’ll have to watch from the crowd along with everyone. I’ve been asking for a fight for the last six months, I’m hungry! Back to work and getting ready for the next step.”

In June 2017, Kevin Lee defeated Michael Chiesa by rear naked choke in the first round, mentioning his opponent’s mother in a trash talk before the fight, which almost led to a fight between the fighters at the pre-match press conference.

In February of this year, Kevin Lee signed a new contract with the strongest league in the world, which he left in 2021 on a two-losing streak.

Recall that the fight between Michael Chiesa and Lee Jinliang was supposed to take place on April 8 at UFC 287 in Miami.
