Conor McGregor revealed over the weekend that a fight with Michael Chandler will take place in December, however, the American fighter is not convinced that he will be able to share the octagon with the Irishman before the end of this year.
“Will the fight take place in December? I wouldn’t count on it too much, but I’m ready,” Chandler told ESPN. “Does he train at all? We see him on the boat more often than we see him working on the sack. I’m ready for the fight because I stay in shape all the time. I’m 37 years old and I try to stick to my diet to stay trim and look like a professional athlete.”
“I’m ready to go out for the fight even tomorrow, and if it happens by the end of the year, that would be phenomenal. But if it gets moved to 2024, that’s okay – it’s still a fight against the biggest star in the sport, the greatest comeback in the history of martial arts, and people are looking forward to it.”
According to Conor McGregor’s plan, which he outlined to talkSPORT, the former UFC double champion is set to fight Michael Chandler in December, then take the BMF title from Justin Gaethje, before completing a trilogy with Nate Diaz.
As a reminder, the world’s strongest league will close out the year with UFC 296 on December 16 in Las Vegas.
