UFC on ABC 2 Main Event
On Saturday night, April 10, the penultimate UFC Apex tournament will take place at the mini-arena in Las Vegas (USA) before the promotion returns viewers to the stands. This coming weekend, MMA fans can expect a relatively modest UFC on ABC 2 (UFC Vegas 23) tournament, in the main event of which we will see an intriguing fight between strong middleweights.
UFC Middleweight No. 6 Marvin Vettori will be tested by No. 10 UFC Middleweight Kevin Holland.
Vettori has picked up a great run in recent years. Since he fought and lost a split decision to eventual UFC middleweight title holder Israel Adesanya three years ago, the Italian has only been winning. He is on a streak of four victories, the last of which he won in December. Rejecting the fight with Ronaldo Souza and replacing just Kevin Holland, Vettori confidently defeated Jack Hermansson in five rounds.
Holland was unable to fight Hermansson due to COVID-19, but he quickly recovered and in the last month of 2020 went into the cage against Sousa, who was left without an opponent, and knocked out Jacare on the ground in less than two minutes. The victory was his fifth in five fights in 2020, making Holland one of only three fighters in UFC history to go 5-0 in a calendar year. But on March 20 at UFC on ESPN 21, Holland stumbled in a unanimous decision loss in the main event to Derek Brunson, and now he intends to return to the winning path.
Prediction for the fight
Holland may have a slight advantage over his opponent on the stand, and at the same time, the knockout blow is on the side of the American. But Vettori has a strong head, and he’s also better grounded, despite the fact that Holland has a black belt in BJJ.
Vettori is a more organized and balanced fighter than Holland. The European fighter is renowned for his stamina, which could play even more of a role in this showdown with Holland entering the cage on short notice. There is every reason to believe that Vettori can extend his streak to five victories that evening.
