Marlon Vera responded to the challenge of Petr Yan

Former UFC flyweight title challenger, Marlon Vera, is ready to step up in November against former division champion, Peter Yan, who has indicated a desire to share the octagon with him.

According to the Ecuadorian, he would like to fight the Russian fighter at the traditional annual tournament, which the organization holds in New York, and has already voiced his desire to the UFC.

“I hope to fight Peter Yan in November,” Cheeto said on another edition of The MMA Hour program. “I don’t know if he’ll be ready, but we’ll find out.”

“I want to fight in New York, I think it’s my city and I feel like a Queens native – I really hope I get on that card. I’m sure I’m pretty well positioned. I’ve made my desire known to the UFC, and I feel like after a fight like this, they should give me what I need.”

Both fighters last fought on March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami, where Marlon Vera made a failed attempt to take the belt from the reigning champion, losing to Sean O’Malley by unanimous decision over five rounds, and Peter Yan put his career back on track after three straight losses with a unanimous decision win over Song Yadong.

On the eve of the Russian fighter announced that he was undergoing surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament of the knee and meniscus, so it is unknown whether he will have time to recover and prepare for the fight in eight months.
