Top American lightweight Shakur Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs), despite plans to take over the 61.2 kg division, is slightly disappointed with how things are going in his weight category. In his opinion, this is an “overvalued division.”
“Honestly, all these dudes have been hanging out in the same weight all this time, and no one is fighting anyone,” Shakur described the situation. “The only ones who actually fought normal people are Teofimo (for Lomachenko when he was at the top) and Devin (for Kambosos).”
On April 15, his complaints may be even more shaken: if both go through intermediate fights, top weight knockouts Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) will meet that day.
Stevenson wants Super Six at lightweight and ‘a lot of money’
But until that happens, Shakur is skeptical.
“We don’t know how good they are against someone who is their equal. So I can’t stick around at this weight and pretend like 61.2 kg is such a dangerous devil. It’s an overrated division in my opinion. I look at him differently than everyone around, ”Stevenson said.
On November 23, he took the bull by the horns and sent the contract to Cepeda. And the silence…
Do you think Stevenson will beat Lomachenko, Haney, Davis and Garcia? The legend suggests not to rush.
