If Leon Edwards manages to retain his title against Colby Covington, the reigning UFC welterweight champion plans to challenge the winner of the middleweight title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis.
The British fighter revealed this in an interview with Sky Sports.
“Any of them would be great to fight,” Edwards stated. “I’m not a small guy myself, so that would be great. To go out and become a double champion, the first ever from the UK. That’s definitely one of my goals.”
Edwards’ plan is for this superfight to be part of the UFC 300 anniversary event, which is tentatively scheduled for next April.
“It would be ideal to fight in April. There’s nothing exciting for me in the division. My participation in the UFC 300 tournament would be a big deal. Let’s see what happens.”
As a reminder, Leon Edwards and Colby Covington will headline UFC 296 in Las Vegas on Dec. 16, while a bout between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis will headline UFC 297 on Jan. 20 in Toronto.
